Pre-Turkey Partying
I was amongst the throng of folks out and about getting their "party on" the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. My first stop was at Mary's Attic, which was having its normal karaoke night with a larger than normal crowd. It was also a very attractive crowd, but unfortunately the karaoke warbling wasn't better than normal. After a quick celebratory shot of Jameson and a toast with doorman David and bartenders Shane, Matador, and Wade, I made my way out to Hunters Nightclub in Elk Grove Village for their annual packed house of suburban gay boy fun, this year called "The Butter-Ball." Of course, as soon as I stepped inside the place, I ran into 5 of my city friends who were out there trolling for new meat. While trolling was not my purpose, listening to DJs Ron G and Ken E lay down some fierce music was. Ron is the Wednesday night resident at Hunters and Ken, a former popular resident DJ there who now lives in Denver and whom I've dubbed "sexy Amish boy" because of his beard, was back in familiar surroundings serving delicious beats and a fine groove. The crowd on this night was uber-handsome and friendly, ensuring that my sojourn past the city limits was well worth it.

After about 90 minutes of being in the suburbs, the magnetic pull of the city kicked in and I was back on the road headed toward Green Dolphin Street for "The Big Playback" party featuring the legendary Frankie Knuckles. I arrived for the "downtrip" of his set and what a glorious trip it was. Filled with soulful house music tracks and signature Knuckles originals such as "The Whistle Song" and "Gimme Gimme (Disco Shimmy)," this set was the perfect end to a long, fun night of club-hopping. The crowd on hand was typical for a Frankie gathering, which interestingly looked positively Obama-ish: gay & straight; men, women, and in-between trannies; from white twenty-something twinkie boys to Latin hotties and their girlfriends to 50+ black south side grandmothers who used to dance to Frankie every weekend "back in the day." It was a fantastic party and one that has me excited already for Thanksgiving 2009.

Monday In The Hood
A friend was in town visiting recently on a Monday night and he was way horny, so we ventured out to Halsted Street to see what was up and to see what might get him up, if you know what I mean. We started out at "Showtunes Night" at Sidetrack and were pleasantly surprised at what we experienced. First off, the videos were an entertaining and good mix of old classics like "Oklahoma" and "The Producers" along with newish clips from the movie versions of "Rent," and "Chicago." Secondly, a few members of the bartending and barback staff are just stunningly beautiful! Wow! Finally, and most interestingly to my friend and I, who are two guys just north of 40 years in existence of the earth, the crowd skewed much younger and more broadly than we anticipated. It used to be that Mondays at Sidetrack was akin to an AARP-in-waiting confab. On this night, the crowd ranged widely and evenly in age, was friendly, and borderline hot!

Once Jennifer Holliday at about 1:30am finished "And I Am Telling You" on the Sidetrack TV screens from the original Dreamgirls, our next stop was at Hydrate for some late night dancing for me and last chance trick pick-up for my friend. I finally met DJ Laura B, who was in excellent form, and had a fine time grooving to her mix that included Green Velvet's "Shake & Pop," Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy," and this fantastic remix of Underworld's "Born Slippy Nuxx" I never heard before. My friend finally met a boy to fulfill hius carnal needs: a cute 23-year-old with a dynamite smile and pretty eyes. When we left Boystown I went my way to White Castle and ate chicken rings and a slider; my friend went his way and ate some chicken and a sausage if you know what I mean.
