For this
Stage & Screen issue of BOI there are several appropriate
"on topic" listings to talk about. First off, as featured
elsewhere in this issue, "Reeling 27 - The Chicago Lesbian &
Gay International Film Festival" takes place Thursday, November 6 through
Sunday, November 16. The Staff here at BOI has seen a majority
of the features films and is please to report that there are
some really great movies being presented this year. For complete

As for the stage,
Jackhammer and The Flesh Hungry Dog
Show presents "Celebrate or Commiserate-The
Electoral Hangover," featuring touring glam rockers Major Tom, along with Aleks and the Drummer, and Charles S. McVey. Hosted by Gary Airedale,
the show will also feature "Bag of Fun" prize giveaways, a special guest performance
from Girlie-Q Live Burlesque, and DJ Sky. Admission is $8 with
all the fun starting at 9pm.
The "5th Annual Lipstick
and Lyrics Drag Show" @ Hydrate is on Saturday, November
8 at 8pm. This live-singing drag review fundraiser benefits the
Chicago
Gay Men's Chorus
and features the men of CGMC singing some favorite songs in their
own words, and maybe even in women's underwear. The $20 donation
get you a complimentary hosted bar and hors d'oeuvres.
For you reality
TV show whores, Bridget from E!'s "Girls Next Door"
will be in town @ Crobar on Friday, November
7. Additional mainstream fun this weekend includes house music
DJs Gene Farris and Dayhota @ Smart Bar and the international stars Blank &
Jones @ Vision, both on Saturday, November 8. If you're
more interested in Boystown venues for after-hours dancing that
night, DJ Brett Henrichsen (LA) brings his energetic club beats
to Hydrate while the urban and
hip-hop beats of "UBU" take center stage @
Circuit

Mayhem
Next
weekend is shaping up to be bigger than big. On Thursday, November
13, "Stardust" @ Berlin brings sexy gay rapper Cazwell to town
for what's sure to be one hell of a show. Then it's the "Fire & Ice
Party!"
presented by Media Star Promotions @ Spin on Friday, November 14 w/ DJ Chris Eterno,
VJ Terp, and hostess Teri Yaki. The soiree will feature hors
d'oeuvres,body painted servers, and a giant ice luge, from which
guests will be able to do their favorite shot!
The next night
on Saturday, November 15, Circuit hosts its hugely successful Latin-tinged "Amigo"
party while
Jackhammer patrons get down in
their skivvies at the "Underwear Party." That same night out
in Sawyer, Michigan there's another "Swank" dance party @ Fitzgerald's. Not to be left out,
Hydrate presents "Rosabel: Deconstructed" for the weekend. Chicago
legend Ralphi Rosario is up first on Friday while his studio
partner DJ Abel makes his way to the Windy City from Miami for
a Saturday night booth appearance.
Facing North:
Stage Left
At the
epicenter of Boystown, Roscoe's Tavern features video in the front bar and
a hi-energy dance floor in back. If you'd like to be on stage
and the screen at the same time, then be sure to check out Monday
night's "You're The Star Karaoke" hosted by Honey West
at 9:30pm. Performers will have their performance broadcast over
Roscoe's in-house television system for those who have always
wanted to be on the TV. There's not a stage per se @ Scarlet Bar, but their raucously
fun "First
Ward Ball"
party on Sundays with DJ Luis M has many folks acting and performing.
Facing North:
Stage Right
Cocktail has a small stage, but the Spank Go-Go
Boys who dance on it definitely have big packages. And they do
a good job of gyrating to the house music beats of DJs Michael
Serafini (Tuesdays), Timmy Loop (Thursdays), Freddie Bain (Fridays),
Diva DJs (Saturdays) and Pete Augusta (Sundays). Next door @
Sidetrack it's all about the small screens at this very popular
video bar. "Showtunes"
are featured
on Mondays, while "Comedy"
is the theme
on Thursdays, and "Energy
Videos" on
Fridays and Saturdays. Their neighbor Minibar is popular with the cute and trendy
crowd who groove to a weekly line-up of events that include "Power Hour Wednesdays"
(DJ Jon Roberts),
"Mystique
Thursdays" (DJ
Phil Da Beatz) and the ultra-fun "Theme Party Sundays"
(DJ Chris
Eterno). Using the entire bar as their stage, strippers strut
their stuff nightly @ Lucky Horseshoe.
Boystown Faves
On the
northern end of Boystown, there's the sports bar North End and its next door neighbor

Loves,
a neighborhood drinkers' paradise with Karaoke on Fridays. The
diversity of options continues with Cell Block (the only leather/fetish bar in Boystown), Kit Kat Lounge (featuring performances
by the Kit Kat Divas), and Charlie's (the
only gay country & western bar in the city). Further south
men's bars Little
Jim's
and Bucks
Saloon
continue
to be popular nightlife and social institutions in the community
while Cornelia's features cabaret erformances
and L.B.C. fills up with a pansexual mix of hip
and cool 20-somethings. features "Pop Goes The Gio" on Thursdays.
Let's Dance
When
it comes to dancing, Berlin is still quite popular with an eclectic late-night
line-up that includes "Cosmix Fridays" w/ DJ Greg Haus and "Twisted" w/ DJs Chester &
Larissa. Hi-energy beats can be had during after-hours with the
likes of DJs LuLu and Mixmaster F @ Charlie's on weeknights and the weekend, DJ Greg
Drescher @ Hydrate on Thursdays, and DJ
Oskar @ Jackhammer on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Dancing with
a Latin flair is on tap every Thursday ("La Noche Loca") and Sunday ("Noche Latina") @ Circuit, Sundays @ Jackhammer, Tuesdays @ Hydrate, and on the weekend @ Club Chesterfield. As for hip-hop, check

on Fridays and "Ear-Otic" @ Spin on Saturday, November 15 w/ DJ Stoney.

Circuit hosts "Lipstick &

DJ Phantom spinning house, hip-hop, steppers, and reggae on Friday,
November 7. On a nightly and weekly basis the fairer sex congregates
at Closet in Boystown (before
the boys join in for after-hours fun) and at several places in
Andersonville, including T's, Star Gaze, Joi De Vine. Thursday nights @ Mary's Attic has the "Lipstick Club" w/ DJs Dragonfire &
KT.

@mosphere hosts strippers on "Hot Mess Thursdays"
w/ DJ Chris
Eterno, and on Fridays and Saturdays with DJs Eric Hall and Timmy
Loop, respectively. Also in Andersonville, the bath house Man's Country has nude strippers leaving
nothing to the imagination every Friday and Saturday night. Speaking
of bath houses, the Boystown venue, Steamworks, features a "Lights Out" party every Thursday,
an after-hours setting w/ DJ Dick on Friday and Saturday nights,
and DJ Jim B on Sunday afternoons.
Out in the suburbs,
the Men
of Sarabia
appear regularly @ Club Krave in
Blue Island on Fridays while Hideaway in Forest Park hosts the Chicago Beef dancers every Thursday and Saturday.
Upping the suburban stripper ante, on Thursday, November 13
Hunters will present "Hunkers Hunks" with Georgio, Kevin
and two Manwatch Dancers.
Beyond Halsted
Up in
Andersonville, you'll find the Chicago Eagle leather bar as well as neighborhood
outpost SoFo south of Foster Avenue, while north of
this divider street sits the martini bar Marty's and the always fun Mary's Attic w/ Rogue DJ for "Feel Good Fridays," DJ Plez for "Attic-tion
Saturdays," and
Karaoke on Sundays and Wednesdays. Further north, the fetish
community finds a home at Touché with "Hardcore Leather Night" on Tuesdays and "Handballer Night"
on Thursdays.
The Uptown/Edgewater
neighborhood is home to three bars with devoted clientele: Granville Anvil (which counts Loyola
students as patrons); Big Chicks (and its popular comped Buffet on Sundays) and
the sport bar Crew with its "Karaoke Night" on Tuesday Scot's is a friendly gathering
spot in the Ravenswood neighborhood while Manhandler sits as a gay oasis in the heart of
Lincoln Park. Downtown, there are two outposts that serve officeworkers
and shoppers alike: Gentry on Sate and Second Story Bar, both of which host terrifically fun
Friday after-work crowds.
Over on the West
Side of town, while the sedate hang at the Davenport's piano bar, the party people congregate every Monday
at "Boom
Boom Room" @ Green Dolphin Street w/ residents DJs Michael Serafini, Diz,
JustJoey & Uncle Milty. Fred Everything is the guest on November
17.
Finally, outside
the Windy City limits, Hunters Nightclub in Elk Grove Village features DJ Ron
G on Wednesdays for the "MWM" party and DJ Laura B on Saturday night
for "Just
Dance."
In Lake Station, Indiana, Encompass hosts "Karaoke" on Tuesdays and
Fridays and resident DJ Tiff on Saturdays.
