Halloween
is filled with many special events and haunted house experiences
throughout the Chicagoland area. And while conventional wisdom
holds that Halloween is for kids, the fact of the matter is that
many adults never "grow out" of their love for all
things frightening and scary. So where to go to get your thrill

@ Daley Plaza Daley Plaza becomes Pumpkin Plaza with a Haunted Village and orange water coursing through the Plaza's fountain. Special programming includes performers from Broadway in Chicago (including Wicked cast members) telling original Earth-friendly stories in the Wicked tent, which highlights solar-powered ghosts, phantom loads (huh!?!), and worm composting. Navy Fear
@ Navy Pier The evil spirits of Halloween are rising from the depths around the world, and surfacing this Halloween season at Navy Pier. Haunted Sanitarium @ Theater on the Lake Theater on the Lake was actually once used as a sanitarium and so it is a most appropriate setting for a presentation of Halloween frights. Small groups wander through scary rooms, each with its own scary theme. A waiting area features refreshments and scary films. Line up by 10:45pm for the final performance each night. Disturbed II @ Oracle Theatre "Disturbed II" is not exactly a haunted house, but this 15-minute horror play is just as terrifying. The audience remains stationary in a confined space as the disturbing, multi-sensory action pops out at them. The play is enhanced with video projection, sound and special effects. Fright Fest 2007 @ Six Flags Great America One of the biggest Halloween celebrations in the metropolitan area, Fright Fest takes over the Gurnee amusement park this coming weekend. "Thrills By Day" is targeted for families and kids while "Chills By Night" turns up the fright intensity with Haunted Houses and the Mausoleum of Terror. Eat live Madagascar hissing cockroaches, worms, crickets, , Rocky Mountain oysters and hot hot Habenero peppers in order to get front-of-the-line access to the rides. Friday, October

Dream Reapers Haunted
House Amidst 14,000 square feet of darkened space, more than 40 actors play grisly characters as strobe lights and high-tech animatronics add to the fear factor. Details include "sinister scents" in each themed room. Thursday, October

Statesville Haunted
Prison and City of the Dead Visitors become prisoners and get to experience the bloody terror unleashed upon them by the escaped criminal "inmates" of Statesville Prison. A visit to City of the Dead, a separate house on the same grounds that offers a macabre look at the underworld, is included in the cost. Thursday, October
