The Pepper Lounge
By Tim McCanless

The Pepper Lounge at 3441 North Sheffield, opened its doors in November of 1993; they have transitioned from a cocktail lounge that served food, to a restaurant with spectacular food that serves really, really good drinks. They quickly became known for their extensive martini list and have been a part of the cocktail culture in Chicago for nearly 12 years.

The Pepper Lounge has helped to contribute to the growth of our community, as well as supporting the causes that matter most to us. They have been a part of Dining Out For Life since its inaugural year, The Human Rights Campaign, The Hearts Foundation and Who's That Girl. Not to mention sponsoring many a friend as they cycle from city to city for The AIDS Ride.

Owner Beth Berlin always greets her customers with a smile. You may have to wait at the bar for a table, but its well worth it. For starters you may want to try the vegetable spring rolls, baby greens, toasted pine nuts with a sweet orange chili sauce or the spinach salad, with warm goat cheese cake, grape tomatoes, and lemon infused white balsamic dressing. Of course there are other ways to start the dinner but I think these are my favorites.

Now moving right into the main course, for the carnivore, the grilled center cut blue cheese crusted pork chop, with homemade spinach potato salad is mouthwatering or if you prefer something meatier, the whole grain mustard crusted petite Filet mignon, with oven roasted potatoes, sautéed French green beans, apple wood smoked bacon and red onions is most worthy of five stars.

If you clean your plate, well, even if you don't you can still have dessert and with this list of great desserts, where do I start? Chocolate, chocolate soufflé cake with a warm chocolate center, vanilla and berry sauces and whipped cream, there is Mousse, berries, Gelato, Key Lime Pie and Apple Bourbon Bread pudding! Gastronomically Gratifying!
