Ristorante Angelina
By Tim McCanless

The setting is colorful and romantic. Candlelight, soft music, set in an old building with chandeliers. The clientele are mainly gay and lesbian couples. The food is best described as Italian (though not exclusively) and is geared toward that trendy tasty crowd. The menu is very rounded out with many choices to create a magnificent dining experience. The Sunday brunch is a must do, with delicious frittatas.

To start out, their list of appetizers, Angelina's calamari alla marinara consists of sautéed calamari in fresh tomato sauce and their prosciutto is heavenly with thin slices of prosciutto di parma with carmalized pear and a balsamic reduction.

Then on to the next course, Insalate or salad as we country folk like to call it. There are two salads that need to be mentioned, one, the insalata del bosco mixed baby greens with pear, walnuts and gorgonzola cheese and the other is the Caesare traditional Caesar salad with heart of romaine and shaved parmesan. Of course, any salad that you order has The Angelina special touch, making them individually unique.

After the salad you may find it hard to decide on the entrée, I know I do. Angelina's has so many great entrees it is hard to choose. There are two sections of entrees, Primi, which is mostly Pasta dishes and Secondi which has beef, chicken and seafood. Like a jury in deliberation we ordered and covered both sections. We ordered Fusilli con Pollo sautéed chicken and spinach in a spicy vodka tomato cream sauce, Tomato Gnocci with cramini mushrooms, proscuitto and a marsala mascarpone sauce, Beef Tenderloin
seared beef tenderloin served with a green peppercorn cream sauce and mashed potatoes and Salsiccia Etnica spicy Italian sausage with pine nuts and golden raisins and balsamic reduction served with creamy polenta. Everything we ordered was brought to the table promptly and looked gorgeous on the plate, we hated to eat it, it looked so pretty!

Now the moment of truth Dolci! Or Dessert rather, would we be able to put away one of Angelina's premium desserts? You Bet! We ordered Budino di pane Cioccolato chocolate bread pudding served hot and topped with vanilla ice cream, Tiramisu layers of espresso soaked lady fingers with mascarpone and chocolate, Sorbetto di Limone lemon sorbet and last but not least, Sorbetto di Lampone Black raspberry sorbet.

So if you are looking for a quiet romantic place to take a special someone or if you want to make someone special, take them to Ristorante Angelina, Philip and the staff there will be happy to treat you like the kings and queens you truly are.
