Ok, so who is Morel?
Morel is actually just his last name. The full real name is Richard Morel. At Discogs.com they describe him as "an openly gay singer/songwriter, remixer and record producer from the DC Metro area of America. Known primarily for his co-production of dance remixes by famous remixers Deep Dish, he has also released albums of his own music, including Peterbilt Angel and Queen of the Highway. He has done remixes for arists such as Tina Turner, Tori Amos, Madonna and The Pet Shop Boys."

So what kind of music has he written and produced? Anything that would be familiar to the masses?
When he makes music it's electro-pop oriented stuff of course with an inviting groove - that he does on his own with a band playing real instruments. His most famous song is probably "True (The Faggot Is You)." That came out in 1999 and I first heard it on the Bedrock compilation CD that John Digweed did. It's a great song.

I think I just recently heard that song?
Yeah, the Deep Dish mix of "True" is on the most recent Queer as Folk compilation CD (Club Babylon) that came out earlier this year.

Where can I find his music?
Most of his recent original music, including his two full-length artist CDs, Queen of the Highway in 2002 and Lucky Strike in 2004,
has been released on Yoshitoshi Recordings, the label headed up by Deep Dish.

His remixing credits are quite impressive?
Fairly early in his career in the mid-1990s he did mixes for Tina Turner's "Wildest Dreams" and The Pet Shop Boys's "Se a Vida E". In 1999 he did mixing and engineering work on Madonna's "Music" and during the first few years of the new millenium he's did remixes for the likes of New Order ("True Faith"), The Collaboration Peter Rauhofer & The Pet Shop Boys ("Break 4 Love"), Depeche Mode ("Dream On"), and Mariah Carey ("The One").

Any remixes of late that would be recognizable to those on the dance floor?
Oh definitely! He's one of the hottest remixers out there in 2005. He actually uses the moniker "Morel's Pink Noise" with his current work. His remix for Seal's "Killer" went to #1 on Billboard's Club Play Chart earlier this year and last month Vivian Green's "Gotta Go, Gotta Leave (Tired)" hit #1 on that same Billboard chart. This summer Morel also has Pink Noise remix credits on New Order's "Krafty," The Killers "All These Things I've Done," and Esthero "Fast Lane," all of which have been charting quite high.

Does Morel have any residencies or does he travel a lot around the world with bookings?
Morel has a monthly night in Washington DC called Blowoff with his friend Bob Mould, who's associated with Hüsker Dü and Sugar. It's a very eclectic night that they have described as "a mix of sleazy house, explosive agit-punk, classic rock, subterranean new wave, electro and unreleased gems."

Well, I guess I now know who Morel is.
