Not all great things are on CD, here!, America's premium gay television network, launched Dante's Cove last fall as its first original series. Described as a hybrid of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer and The OC, Dante's Cove combines the genres of surf culture and gothic horror. In addition to this unique blend of drama and the paranormal, here! created an even more distinctive landscape through the characters' sexual orientation. Though many of the residents of the Hotel Dante are gay, lesbian or bisexual, the show breaks down stereotypes by not emphasizing the much-seen struggles traditionally associated with being gay, but instead spotlights the drama of these characters who simply happen to be gay. The complete first season will now be available on DVD in a 2-disc set through Genius Products on August 8.

The setting for Dante's Cove is a small, peaceful beach town on a mysterious island where the action focuses on the inhabitants of the infamous Hotel Dante. Its residents, mostly surfers and college students of varying sexual orientations, soon find that their seemingly quiet town has a dark and sinister past.

Also on DVD, Third Man Out, the first of six installments of the popular novels from Richard Stevenson, focuses on Donald Strachey, a gay detective played by out actor Chad Allen (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman). Strachey is hired to protect a gay activist named John Rutka who has been receiving threats due to his outing of certain distinguished citizens. When Rutka ends up dead, Strachey must use his skills to weed through the sizeable list of possible suspects, each with their own motive. At the heart of the story is Strachey's home life with his boyfriend, a haven away from the harsh realities he must deal with on a daily basis. In a unique blend of genres, Third Man Out breathes new life into classic detective mystery with its brazen queer twist.
