EXPOSÉ
8:00pm, Saturday, August 9th Bud Light Stage (Roscoe)
Famous for Latin-flavored dance-pop as well as for adult contemporary ballads, the female vocal trio Exposé enjoyed a great deal of commercial success in the '80s and early '90s. Although Exposé's best-known lineup included Jeanette Jurado, Gioia Bruno, and Ann Curless, none of them were founding members. The original lineup consisted of Alé Lorenzo, Sandra Casanas, and Laurie Miller, which in 1984 recorded Exposé's hit single "Point of No Return." This debut song was a major club hit and went down in history as a definitive example of Latin freestyle - a high-tech form of dance-pop that was also identified with artists like the Cover Girls and TKA.
After the success of "Point of No Return," Lorenzo, Casanas, and Miller all left the group in 1986 and pursued solo careers. However, the revamped Exposé's popularity continued to grow, leading to the chart-topping single "Come Go with Me" in early 1987. By that time, Exposé's famous Jurado/Bruno/Curless lineup was in place with a multiple-platinum album and performing not only Latin freestyle for club audiences, but also radio-friendly songs, including major hits ranging from the adult contemporary ballad "Seasons Change" (#1 on Billboard's pop singles chart) to the R&B/urban-oriented "Let Me Be the One."
Sadly, Bruno had to leave the group in 1991 after a benign throat tumor rendered her unable to sing. She was replaced by Kelly Moneymaker, and while the group released another album in 1992, they broke up in early 1996 following the split with their record label. After a long hiatus, Exposé (the Curless/Jurado/Moneymaker line-up) reunited briefly for a reunion concert in 2003.
Then in 2006, with Bruno's voice fully recovered, the Jurado/Bruno/Curless line-up embarked on an extensive tour that has been quite successful and has been going strong ever since. www.exposeonline.net
ERIC HIMAN
8:30pm, Saturday, August 9th Brompton Stage
Indie rocker Eric Himan is the impressive combination of a strong singing voice, a musical talent at playing the guitar, an insightful lyricist, and strikingly handsome good looks. He is indeed the "complete package" and his hard-working ways over the past several years has landed him a loyal national following and critical praise. Born in South Carolina and with childhood homes in Florida, Hawaii, and New York, music has been a part of his life ever since his father bought him his first guitar at the age of eight. However, it was during his college days at Penn State University when he finally realized the true power of music as his guitar-strumming became a force that brought people together.
A current resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Himan, who can be seen often on LOGO-TV and who was on Out.com's "OUT 100 List" in 2005, is the embodiment of today's national musical acts: constantly touring and traveling to gigs all over the country and reaching millions more through technology. While he released his sixth studio album Resonate earlier this year, Himan connects his music with his legion of fans directly via his www.EricHiman.com website and MySpace page (www.MySpace.com/EricHiman). FERRAS
5:30pm, Sunday, August 10th Bud Light Stage (Roscoe)
A native of a small, southern Illinois town, the budding pop star Ferras (pronouncedFer-AHSS) always felt out of place during his early childhood. This feeling was only compounded when he was kidnapped by his father and whisked off to live in Amman, Jordan following the divorce of his parents. While overseas, Ferras took solace in his Casio keyboard and began writing songs to express his feelings. His mother eventually succeeded in bringing him back to the U.S., but the sense of alienation persisted until they moved to Southern California and he began pursuing a music career in earnest.
On his recently released debut album Aliens and Rainbows, the "out & proud" Ferras delivers an impressive collection of performances inspired by David Bowie, The Beatles and Elton John. His piano-pop style is far from simplistic, characterized instead by layers of emotions and artistic maturity that connect to a wide audience and his ever growing fan base. His hit single "Hollywood's Not America" was featured on the recently completed season of American Idol, thrusting Ferras deservedly into the musical consciousness of the country. With likely superstardom on the horizon, his appearance at Market Days is destined to be one of the weekend's most talked about highlights. www.ferrasmusic.com
