CLARKSTREET This edgy group
of talented musicians from northern New Jersey plays a unique
brand of vocal driven, punk influenced rock with melodic pop
hooks in every song. ClarkStreet's incorporation of three part
vocal harmonies adds depth to their aggressive sound and serves
as a defining characteristic. Having established their reputation
along the eastern seaboard, they've set their sights on the Midwest
with a plan to impress all at Market Days. Hydrate has Divas and DJs all weekend long at their popular stage at the corner of Halsted and Cornelia. Saturday features DJ Brett Locascio (12n 3pm), the Hydrag Show with Mimi Marks, Monica Munro, Tajma Hall, Aurora Sexton and Teriyaki (3pm-5pm), DJ Jeannette (3pm-7pm), and Chicago legendary DJ Ralphi Rosario (7pm-10pm). On Sunday, DJ Laura B gets going with a "Retro Set" (12n-4pm), followed by DJ Greg Drescher (4pm-7pm) and circuit superstar DJ Roland Belmares (7pm-10pm). R.O.T.C. More commonly known as ROTC, this all male color guard ensemble combines precision military style marching maneuvers, rifles that are twirled and spun into the air, and music that's fun and energetic. GAY MEN'S CHORUS CGMC has been
an integral part of Chicago's cultural and gay communities since
1983, entertaining audiences with innovative and wide-ranging
musical programming. The chorus has produced memorable performances
over the years including popular productions celebrating the
Sidetrack show tune experience and the full-length book musicals
of The Wizard of Oz and H.M.S. Pinafore. DEVIN &
THE STRAIGHTS Dubbed "the
gayest country in the city," Devin and the Straights bring
together American country music and the swan songs of a broken
hearted groom in a style that has earned them a loyal local following.
Dressed in rhistones and faded blue jeans, they present country
with an inviting twist that is sure to please. CHICAGO
SPIRIT BRIGADE Chicago Spirit
Brigade is a hi-energy high-flying LGBT cheerleading squad dedicated
to putting on entertaining performances while raising money for
various community organizations. In the midst of its fifth season,
the Spirit Brigade has raised over $15,000 for not-for-profit
groups that provide direct care services. GOKH-BI
SYSTEM Considered leaders of the emerging African hip-hop movement, Gokh-Bi System (pronounced Go-Bee) has created a style of music which fuses traditional African rhythms with contemporary urban American beats in a style which they've dubbed, "Ancient Meets Urban". Hailing from Dakar, the capital of Senegal in West Africa, Gokh-Bi System was influenced early on by the likes of KRS-One and Chuck D of Public Enemy and deliver a refreshing form of hip-hop that overflows with positive vibrations. www.myspace.com/gokhbi CHICAGO
ROOM SHOWCASE STAGE Rubin's Chicago
Room Gallery hosts a a two-day showcase presentation of local
talent on a stage at the intersection of Halsted and Buckingham.
The line-up will include musical acts The August, James Scalfani,
Nanette Frank and Rob Juice along with performances by the Boitsov
Ballet and Cerqua Rivera dance companies. Comedy will be supplied
by Second City, Improv Olympic and Playground Theater comedians.
Also scheduled is a performance by the cast of the new musical
parody "Refugee Girls Revue." |
