In Bucktown/Wicker Park, there is a shop where you can drop in for a piercing, listen to some hard to find music, have a glass of juice, accessorize and browse for a magazine that suits your lifestyle. It sounds like an urban department store. Well, it's not; it's The Silver Room at 1442 N. Milwaukee.
The Silver Room, It's not just Jewelry, not just music, how do you describe it?
The way I describe it is things that we enjoy in our lives that affect our sense's. It's important that we stimulated visually as well as auditory. Music and fashion to me our the same thing. They enhance our lives and make us feel better about ourselves. I want to exhibit things that I feel add to our lives both musically and visually.
Where does the inspiration for The Silver Room come from?
The inspiration for the store comes directly from things that I like or would like to see in the store. I do most of the buying. When I buy merchandise I think about what I would like to see a person wearing. The music is music that I play and enjoy. It's just a way to share myself with everyone. You are featuring DJ's at the store? Who is on the line-up?
I have been DJing for over 20 years so music is my first love. I have been privileged enough to have most every DJ and promoter in the city come in the store. so most of the people spinning our friends of mine. We have had pretty much everyone spin in the store from Derick Carter to Jesse De la Pena and too many to name. I just like to keep it fresh and non-commercial.You have another store in Boystown, is it similar to the
Bucktown/Wicker Park store?
The store in Boystown in more of a showroom for people who can't get to Wicker Park, this sometimes is very neighborhood oriented. I want to carry more men's items in the store being that we have a lot more men coming to that store.Where do you get the items that you sell at The Silver Room?
I get items from anywhere I can find them. I have an artist that lives down the street to Paris, Germany, South Africa....everywhere. I am on a constant quest to find new things. For more information you can check out their website at www.thesilverroom.com or call them at 773-278-7130.
