Movie distributors are getting smart about releasing lesser known titles to home video and DVD. Release a movie no one ever heard of, and you've got no takers. Release a movie no one's ever heard of, as part of a set, and suddenly the titles seem to make sense. Folks start wanting to see not just the one movie, but all of them.

The Cinema Sirens Collection includes releases from old time sex symbols, who are pictured in various stages of undress on the DVD covers. To my mother, these images might mean her son is straight after all, but to most people they should just point out how really gay I actually am. Let's face it, not a lot of straight men are hacking off to Claudia Cardinale these days, but gay men can imitate her thick Italian accent beautifully.

One of her lesser known movies is included here, and if you've never seen GIRL WITH A SUITCASE, you aren't missing a masterpiece, but Cardinale is young and beautiful even when playing the older woman. See, she's dumped by one brother, only to the capture the attention of his much younger brother, Lorenzo. Poor Cardinale. She just wants love. Don't we all? Lorenzo's family is none too pleased, but eventually Claudia moves on to a more age appropriate mate. Too bad Lorenzo has other ideas. 109 minutes.

Gina Lollobrigida stars in ALINA, a movie about smuggling, traveling by night in the cold of winter, from Italy to France. Not exactly lingerie material, but don't fret. Lollo may be stepping up to the plate for a sick hubby, and filling in for his place in the smuggling ring, but Marco, another smuggler, has other plans and they all involve Gina! If you don't remember this title either, well, neither does anyone else. 74 minutes.

Jayne Mansfield stars in two titles in the Cinema Sirens Collection. IT TAKES A THIEF is not the Hitchcock picture, but a gangster flick. Jayne is the unlikely head of a group of robbers, even pulling in her boyfriend to help stash the dough. Someone sets him up, and he winds up in jail. But, who has the money? Riveting. Well, not really, but you do get to see Jayne in a white fur with black gloves. And the question of whether she looks just as freaky in a turtleneck is answered with a resounding yes. 70 minutes.

TOO HOT TO HANDLE is more like it. A more well known title, new to DVD, features Mansfield as Midnight Franklin, a stripper in love with Johnny, the no-good owner of The Pink Flamingo nightclub where she works. Blackmail, murder, underage girls. The usual. Poor, selfless Jayne. She will do anything for this slob. 93 minutes of dirty salacious fun.
