Special Events The big event this weekend is the HRC "Summer Chic Fundraiser" @ Hyatt Regency Chicago (151 E Wacker Dr) on Saturday, July 19. The featured speaker is Jane Lynch with the Community Equality Award being presented to Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN) and the Corporate Equality Award to Jenner & Block. The VIP Reception begins @ 5pm with the General Reception and Silent Auction @ 6pm. Entertainment by DJ Anthony & Fusion and Zumanity (the sensual side of Cirque Du Soleil) starts @ 10pm. Also on tap for Saturday, June 19 is the monthly "Amigo" party @ Circuit. This month it's "Vamos A La Playa / Let's Go To The Beach" w/ Guest DJ Roei Rodriguez (Mexico City). Over @ Hydrate, Superstar DJ Tony Moran returns to Chicago for his first spin in the newly remodeled club. This third Saturday in July finds the boys in their briefs @ Jackhammer for the monthly "Underwear Party." Out in Indiana at Encompass Nightclub, they're having a VIP Party for their MySpace friends, www.myspace.com/encompassntcb . The final weekend of the month has Circuit hosting its Nitro Party on Saturday, July 26. The theme is "Christmas in July" and features DJs Peter Rauhofer & Hugo, host Miss Foozie, and décor by Visuwil. If the late night dancing is too intense at Circuit, then check out the hi-NRG after-hours at Charlie's with DJ Lulu, hottie DJ Scotty Thompson @ Hydrate, or the alternative groove at Berlin w/ DJs Chester and Larissa. Dropping Trou and Towels Steamworks, the full-service all-male club, gym, and sauna features a "Lights Out" party every Thursday night and an after-hours setting w/ DJ Dick on Friday and Saturday nights. They host the "Bears, Bath & Beyond" play party with DJ Dexter St. Jacques, 1pm-6pm on Saturday, June 26. The all-nude stripper shows @ Man's Country, Andersonville's bath house outpost, feature the men of Sarabia every Friday and Saturday night. Chicago's professional dancers (aka go-go boys) entertain throughout the city, including at @mosphere on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights w/ DJs Chris Eterno, Eric Hall and Timmy Loop, respectively, supplying the music. Meanwhile in Boystown @ Lucky Horseshoe, dancers strut their stuff on top of the bar seven nights a week with Cocktail offering a five nights a week program with the "Spank Go-Go Boys" and house music on Sundays (DJ Pete Augusta), Tuesdays (Michael Serafini), Thursday (Timmy Loop), Fridays (Freddie Bain) and Saturdays (a rotation of Diva DJs). As for amateurs dancers showing what they got, check out the "BEAR-y Shower Contest" hosted by Frida Lay @ Spin on Friday, July 18. The contest starts at Midnight with sign-up by 11pm. On Thursday, July 31 Roscoe's hosts its monthly "Wet Boxer Contest" @ Midnight. Friday Lay is the host and $600 in prizes is being offered. Summer Lovin' When the gay summer athletes finish up on the softball fields and beach volleyball courts, they typically head to venues such as Crew, Big Chicks, or North End. Crew features karaoke on Tuesdays while Big Chicks feeds the world on Sundays with their complimentary BBQ and buffet. Patrons of the video bar Sidetrack sidle up to the bar for potent frozen slushy drinks and enjoy "Showtunes" on Mondays, "Comedy" on Thursdays, and "Energy Videos" on Fridays and Saturdays. Next door @ Minibar, the cute and the trendy enjoy the weekly line-up of events that include "Power Hour Wednesdays" (DJ Jon Roberts), "Mystique Thursdays" (DJ Phil Da Beatz) and the ultra-fun "Theme Party Sundays" (DJ Chris Eterno). Roscoe's, a popular weekend watering hole and danceteria, attracts large crowds for its "Drag Race 2008" hosted by Frida Lay on Tuesdays and "Male Call" w/ the effervescent Miss Foozie on Sundays. At the end of the Halsted Strip south, Spin's "What The F&*k Wednesdays" bring out the chicken and chicken-hawks for $1 drinks. On the opposite end of the strip Bobby Loves has a a contingent of barflies every night, and day, of the week that is truly a bunch. And smack in the middle of Boystown are Little Jim's and Buck's, two neighborhood institutions. Berlin has "Prince Night" on Sunday, July 27, "Disco Night" on Wednesday, July 30, and the Friday "Cosmix" party w/DJ Greg Haus. Hydrate's weekly line-up includes DJ Jeanette on Sundays, Laura B on Mondays and Greg Drescher on Thursdays. Jackhammer hosts the most diverse crowd in the city with DJ Oskar on Wednesdays and Thursdays and the always fun "Hole" open on Fridays and Saturdays. Where The Girls Are Where does the panty set (aka the lesbians) in the city hang out? Well, when they're in Boystown you're most likely to see them @ Closet, which sees an influx of testosterone during after-hours. Up in Andersonville, you'll see the fairer sex everywhere, from T's to the south to Star Gaze to the north to Joi De Vine to the west. On Thursdays, Mary's Attic has recently launched "Ladies' Night" with DJ Shoshanna. Where Men Are`Men Manhandler ably and comfortably services its loyal customers in Lincoln Park and on occasion sees a DePaul professor or two "counseling" one of his students. Same description for the Granville Anvil up in Edgewater, just change the school to Loyola. On the fetish front, the guys @ Cell Block, Chicago Eagle, and Touché will be busy the weekend of July 18-20 with the "Pantheon of Leather Weekend" and the "Midwest Rubber Contest." During the week Touché hosts "Hardcore Leather" night on Tuesdays and "Handballer Night" on Thursdays, July 24. The refined among us hang out at cabaret bars such as Gentry On State and Second Story Bar downtown, Davenport's in Wicker Park, 3160 in Lakeview and Cornelia's in the heart of Boystown. are quite likely to wear more conservative styles of underwear but pay a pretty penny for them. Minority Report If hip-hop is your preferred music and preferred scene then check out Prop House on Fridays and Spin for the "Ear-Rotic" hip-hop & house party w/ DJs Stoney & SP1 on Saturdays, July 19 & 26. If more interested in a Latino vibe, there are several options: on the south side @ Chesterfield Club on the weekends, Hydrate on Tuesdays, and Circuit on Thursdays & Sundays. And don't forget "Boom Boom Room" (not affiliated with those previously mentioned) @ La Quinta de los Reyes (6739 W. Ogden Ave. in Berwyn). House Music All Night Long House music reigns supreme every Monday night at the long-running "Boom Boom Room" @ Green Dolphin Street with host Byrd Bardot and residents DJs Michael Serafini, Diz, JustJoey & Uncle Milty. It's also the music of choice at the "Monday Social: Beats + Bass + Rhythm" party @ Debonair Social Club (1575 N. Milwaukee Ave.) with DJ Brian Gardner and at "Attic-tion Saturdays" w/ DJ Plez @ Mary's Attic. Scarlet Bar serves up a saucy blend of house music with DJ Sean Richard on Thursdays and Carla Starla and AJ Dubbz on Fridays. Also on Fridays on the south side, Jeffrey's Pub hosts DJ Dana Powell's Chicago house music extravaganza. Suburban Highlights Hunters Nightclub in Elk Grove Village features DJ Ron G on Wednesdays for the "MWM" party and DJ Laura B on Saturday night for "Ascent." On Thursday, July 24 Playgirl Cover Model Zack Vazquez performs. Other venue outside the city limits waving the lavender and rainbow flags include Hideaway in Forest Park, Club Krave in Blue Island, and Encompass Nightclub in Lake Station, Indiana.
