Tommy Boy's focus has always been on street music. They're the label that brought us Hip Hop pioneers De La Soul and Biz Markie. They're also the label that has recently released DJ mix compilation albums from Abel, Manny Lehman and Tony Moran. Now, the label is announcing the launch of Silver Label, an all-gay record label! We spoke with Victor Lee and Rosie Lopez, founders of the new label.

Is the time right for an all-gay label?
Rosie: Absolutely! The concept is to deliver great artists that appeal to or represent our community.

Will you be signing brand new gay artists?
Victor: Most definitely. As a matter of fact, we are in the middle of signing new openly gay artists right now.

Do you plan to specialize in dance or will Silver release all kinds of genres that appeal to gays?
Victor: While we will continue to deliver dance releases, we will definitely be putting out music from other genres.

Any plans for showtunes?
Rosie: Hmmmm... interesting! We haven't thought about that but we are open to new ideas. We are talking to an openly gay comedian about releasing a DVD album so anything is possible.

What should we look out for from Silver Label?
Victor: The Queer As Folk Final Season Soundtrack is coming out in July. Also, Chris Cox's "12 More Inches of Cox", Abel's "Alegria Musica", Tony Moran's "Tour De Beats II", Kristine W's new album and since we all like to get our thug on, we will be releasing a Hip Hop mixed CD by DJ Beyond.
Rosie: Our goal is to develop artists that have something to say that can heal, unify and empower our community.
