It's not your
mom and dad's old version of I've Got A Secret, just like everything
now, it's new and improved and the
panel is all gay! The game is the same, the guest comes on and
whispers their secret into the host Bil Dwyer's ear and the secret
is shown to the audience and the folks at home. Then each panelist,
Jermaine Taylor, Suzanne Westenhoefer, Frank DeCaro and Billy
Bean has 40 seconds each to ask yes or no questions to figure
out the guests' secret. If the guest stumps the panel they get
dinner for 2 in Hollywood and $1000.00. If the panel guesses
the secret the guest leaves with lovely parting gifts. The great
thing about the new version is that it is peppered with Celebrity
guests like, Batman's Adam West, Martha Wash, Phyllis Diller,
and many, many more! You can catch it on GSN, the network for
games. But now, let's meet the straight man to the panel, Bil
Dwyer.
Bil, you were born
in Chicago, how long were you there?
I was born in Chicago but I lived in Evergreen Park until I went
to College at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
Bil, why
one "L"?
That is because of a lark and it has been a pain in my ass for
20 years, I have had to correct people all the time, they still
ask me all the time, "is that legal?"
How does
"I've Got a Secret compare to other hosting jobs that you
have had?
It is one of he best hosting jobs I have had because I really
get to host! Other hobs I got to do color commentary for Battlebots
but I like to be in the spotlight.
What other
projects are you working on?
I just did last comic standing on NBC but I can't tell you more
about that it will be on the end of May. I'm off to Detroit to
do some stand up, but other than that, not much going on.
What is
your secret?
I have a baboon liver transplanted in me!
What else
do you want our readers to know?
Keep your sighs to a minimum, let's have less sighs in the world.
And now let's
meet Jermaine Taylor
What is
it like being on the panel of the revival of
"I've Got a Secret"?
I feel so humble and honored to be in this position to be on
a show that ran for 15 years. My mother and grandmother remember
the show and I am incredibly honored to be a part of it. It is
a hysterical experience to be part of the panel
Have you
ever been on a game show?
No, but the show that I wrote is formatted as a game show, I
played the host and the 3 contestants.
Tell us
about your one man show.
I have always have had an affinity for game shows, as a latch
key kid, I watched game shows, so I picked my brain and wrote
and marketed it as a elaborate game show production as a game
show. This garnered me a nomination for the Adelco Award against
Melba Moore!
What is
your secret?
The Laundromat has always been a good spot for me.
What are
your plans for the future?
I have just moved into a great apartment in LA so I am looking
for furniture.
What else
do you want our readers to know?
Unless you are honest with yourself personally, success may be
a long time coming. Not to say you won't get it, you can. As
a gay black man, with my wit and charm I still didn't see a lot
come my way , but when I embraced myself I went from an off Broadway
production and now I am the star of a successful TV show, it
can happen to you.
And now let's
meet Suzanne Westenhoefer
How
do you feel to be a regular on "I've Got a Secret"?
I love it, they went through a long process and they finally
picked me! I am a Celebrity!
How did
you land this gig?
I had sex with the executive producers, both of them and their
heterosexual!
You were
one of the first out entertainers, how difficult was that?
I was the first gay comic to do it in the main stream and in
regular clubs and TV. And then after me was the others that came
out. Now people are pretending to be gay just to be popular.
What is
your secret?
Unfortunately as a stand up comedian I don't have any secrets!
Uh, if I had a secret I'd use it to get work! Let me make up
something, I am a shitty lesbian, more like a fag. I may get
kicked off the lesbian team, and I am high on skittles!
What are
your plans for the future?
I am going to have dinner and get the laundry done and I have
the weekend off. I might play with the cat. I think I will start
Jane Fonda's new book, she signed it for me.
What do
your want our readers to know?
The most important thing we can do is like our own and come out.
If you cannot be open like yourself, like your friends and like
those around you. Work on that!
And now let's
meet Frank De Caro
Frank,
Frank, Frank, how did you finagle your way into this panel?!?
I played the game a lot and suddenly there I was, it was a lot
of fun and when I got it I was delighted
You have
such style, such flare, who does your clothes?
Joanne Lavin , Wendy and Allan they are so talented, and it is
always great to see what they come up with. I said to them I
don't if the scary thing is the outfit or how comfortable I am
with it'!
You are
so busy, how do you make time for "I've Got a Secret?"
It was nice, I did the radio show between 8 & 11 and we would
do the game show at noon and then spent most of the day shooting
I've Got a Secret, who would say no to that! And by the way,
there is not just water in those cups! They're full of Joy Juice!!
Tell us
about your book, A Boy named Phyllis?
My book came out 10 years ago, and Vanity Fair called it hilarious,
I'd like to get it reissued now that I'm famous, 1996 was a big
year for me. That was the year that I redefined myself as a journalist
into a writer/performer. This is basically an autobiography about
growing up in the suburbs. The Advocated coined me as a pioneer!
What is
your secret?
I am Suri's real father, but don't tell Tom Cruise
What are
your plans for the future?
I hope we get to make more I've Got A Secret episodes and write
some more books and create a sit com, but right now it is to
make more episodes of I've Got a Secret.
What else
do you want our readers to know?
My message to young gay men and lesbians is that it always gets
better; you are not alone, not even close. The one thing they
didn't tell us in school is that someone will pay you money for
being yourself. And be gayer tomorrow than you were today.

And now let's
meet Billy Bean
Billy,
the most serious player on the panel, how did you get this gig?
It was an accident, I wrote a book called Going the Other Way
And it out me out as a public figure and Craig Zadan , Neil Meron
and Allan Poul they bought the potion to the book and they area
producing my book and I was asked by Andy Strausser to read for
the game show. It wouldn't have happened if I wouldn't have been
in LA. We are a big family now!
You were
the Grand Marshall for the Chicago Gay Pride Parade, what was
that like?
It was a tremendous honor, growing into this opportunity, it
was interesting to see the responsibility and feeling and understanding
of the people that I represent. I will be a part in the Gay Games
VII in Chicago this year and i feel that I have gone full circle.
Tell us
about your work with the Human Rights Campaign?
I started 5 years ago when I met Elizabeth Birch and she told
me I had a message and I was inspired by her. I have spoken at
many functions and gotten more involved. I have learned that
at times there wasn't so much separation within the LGNBT community.
I feel privileged to be a part to make our country a better place
What is
your book about?
My book is about my life, I was a married life, I didn't come
out until 1999 and quit playing baseball in '96, however I ran
away from my career, and I pretended I was someone else. I got
fed up and went to Miami and met my current partner of 10 years
and wrote my book, Going the other way
What is
your secret?
I held my secret for 28 years and now I am guessing other peoples
secrets!
What else
do you want our readers to know?
The only way that we are going to make progress is to be responsible
to ourselves and make the world a better place for ourselves.
There are huge obstacles to overcome but we can overcome them.
