As
the Assistant Editor for BOI Magazine I do get a few perks, one
of which is to sit in on photo shoots for Cover BOI. Started
in January with the first issue of 2009, this collaborative effort
with ChicagoPride.com has proven successful as we've brought
more local faces to the covers of the magazine. In addition to
the use of some very handsome models, a large part of the success
of Cover BOI is due to the skill and talent of its resident photographer,
Allan Spiers. A native of Lima, Peru, Spiers has already found
major success as a photographer and graphic designer in South
Florida and is now set to take Chicago by storm.
At first glance
at his Cover BOI work, one might suspect that Spiers
simply presents the male form as it's presented to him. However,
it's not too long and doesn't take being a photography critic
to realize that this Peruvian is much more than the holder of
a point & click camera. Spiers is a true professional and
a talented artist who has a deep passion and love for photography.
Of this love he recently confided, "I look to capture the
real essence of a person when I take a photograph; I have a desire
to not only show how something looked, but how it felt when I
took the photograph and captured the moment. I want to convey
the spirit and personality of the person from a new and surprising
point-of-view."
While
waiting for another fine example of Spiers' work to appear on
our cover, BOI readers and the public at large can see more results
of his photographic love at his "Urbanity" show. Currently
being presented at Galleria Concord (1348 W. Concord Place, 2nd
Floor | 773.489.9200), Spiers' "Urbanity" is a photo
collection of refined form and style of the effortless beauty
of men. Presenting beautiful bodies as well as the complex personalities
being expressed, he said, "I'm very excited to share my
work with the public."
For more information
about Spiers, visit his website: www.allanspiers.com. To see
his work up close and personal, the "Urbanity" show
runs through July 31 at Galleria Concord, Tuesday through Sunday,10
am- 4 pm.
