Greg at Haus chose Andersonville because of the community feel. He lives and works in the community and wanted to be a part of what made this a unique neighborhood, because it had so much to offer. Because of the other businesses in the neighborhood Greg felt that he would be a niche business here. The residents here have great taste in this thriving community. It's like a small town in a big city.

Haus is functional art, but what exactly is functional art? Greg told me that "Design is where art meets function". That is what he tries to do. Functional art is something you use everyday,. He based his whole store on the coffee mug. Every morning you reach for that mug and you know the history about it and it is beautiful to look at, or met the artist that made it. Or you have a vase to put your flowers in, you know that it was hand made and not only are the flowers beautiful, so is the piece of art you are putting them into

Join Greg for a Haus Party where he features an artist or a group of artists every month to promote and they are there to meet and greet open house. There is a connection with the art and the artist and you can come in and meet the artist. Haus items will finish your home. The combination of art and function will make you remember the artist and where you got it, at Haus, 773-769-4000 www.hauschicago.com

It was 15 years ago Dan wanted decided he wanted to be a destination location, because then you know that the customers want to be there. It is not just dropping in it is a place where you want to go. When Let them eat cake store closed Dan took
the name "Taste of Heaven" as a sign. Then he moved to this new location and the owner was reluctant to sell but finally did. Again, this was another sign.

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, coffee and dessert, the pastries are the backbone of the business. However, a lot of their business is meals. The idea of Taste of Heaven is to be taken care of. When you are there, you will always be taken care of. When you are there you don't have to worry about anything. "Children of all ages have to behave when they come to a "Taste of Heaven" is not just international news, it is part of being at a Taste of Heaven.

Taste of Heaven has a great breakfast; it's huge! Featuring ham with red peppers and mustard, Brisket with cherries, great soups, and well everything is good. Everything is made from scratch just like grandmother did. Give them a call at 773-989-0151.

Established before Andersonville was Andersonville in 1928 Dennis's parents bought this small bakery in 1979 and found it a great location to do business. In 1991, they did a build out and expanded into the building next to them. This makes it easier for the employees during the busy times of year.

What the Andersonville customers like the best is hard to answer, the people like the cake, but they sell other items, traditional coffee cakes, sweet rolls and donuts. They are more of a pastry shop as opposed to a bakery. They have evolved into breads and sweet rolls, they do business from 6 6 every day.

Swedish Bakery specializes in tortes and cakes, marzipan cakes and chocolate ganache, a fudge cake with chocolate mousse enrobed ganache. Their cookies are well known as well as their Swedish cookies, petit fours and traditional coffee cakes. The Cardomon coffee cakes are popular with the old Swedish. Everybody loves the "Andersonville Coffee Cake" named after the neighborhood. Phone in orders call 773-561-8919 or go on line at www.swedishbakery.com.
