Dave Tripper from Fusion Radio had the pleasure to interview Cheyne, former lead singer from Madison Avenue. This is the release of her first solo CD, let's see what she has to say.
"I've Got Your Number" has done extremely well worldwide, even in the U.S, where the dance scene is not nearly as strong. Are you surprised by the success in the U.S. versus how it's doing globally?
No, I've always been so warmly embraced here in the US from the club scene and especially the gay crowd. I mean, let's face it, they've got great taste. And it's less to do with politics with that particular scene, well in my experience anyway, and then it is to do with just the music.
So, you seem to be a bit of a control freak...according to your website, for "I've Got Your Number." You wrote the lyrics, conceived the story for the video, directed it, negotiated the budget and coedited the video itself. Is control for you important, or is it just part of putting forth your vision?
(Laughter) Yes, I have been called a control freak once in awhile. I do have a fairly hands-on approach. I don't deliberately start out to like that; it just seems to turn out that way. I am surrounded by really, really talented people....I might come up with an idea but I need a crew of people to help me manifest that and, you know everyone puts in their two bogs worth or I don't work with them twice, you know what I am saying?
That is hysterical. If you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be and Why?
I amveryintense and umI amveryprivate and I am...umI am very funny. It's a known fact that I am a very funny chic.
What are your touring plans? Is there a place you'd love to come back to? Chicago perhaps?
I would love to come back to Chicago, I had so much fun here and met some particularly good people. I did a tour of several clubs here that were all owed by the same guy and he just looked after us so, so very well. I have this fantasy of getting a Winnebago and just wondering around the country doing gigs in clubs. I don't actually have any dates booked, although, I have had lots of invitations to come do gigs all over the place. The idea is for the next single, which is "I Don't Do Nice" to do really, really well and that would sort of justify me getting over here and doing a tour.
Well, it looks like your 2005 is off to a great start. Cheyne, thank you so much for talking to us here on Fusion Radio! And we'll see you when you get into town!
It's been really good, thanks so much for talking with me. I really do appreciate it. And I appreciate all the support that Chicago has shown me. Very much looking forward to coming back and having a play!
