Memorial Day Parade
Memorial Day marks the beginning of the Summer season here at the Chicago Park District. All of our Beaches, Pools and Waterparks are officially open for the Season. In addition, many events are taking place throughout the park honoring the many men and women who fought for this great country. Plan to show your support at the Annual Memorial Day Parade which marches right through Grant Park on May 31. Come out and honor our country's veterans. Begin with a ceremony at the Logan Memorial (Grant Park, Michigan and 9th St.) at 11 AM. Then watch the parade starting at noon on Columbus Drive, between Balbo and Monroe Streets.

Those "Support Our Troops" car magnets are heartwarming, but you can be even more demonstrative about your respect for current and former service men and women by attending Chicago's Memorial Day Parade. After a wreath-laying ceremony on Daley Center Plaza, the largest Memorial Day Parade in the country steps off at noon and marches down State Street (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), from Wacker Drive to Van Buren Street. You'll see and hear more than 25,000 participants and 250 marching units including military units, high school bands, the JROTC and veteran's groups from across the State of Illinois. The parade commemorates the more than 1.2 million service men and women who have died since the Revolutionary War as well as recognizes those currently serving around the world. Be sure to linger and see what Greater State Street Council members including Sears, Marshall Field's, Carson Pirie Scott and the Palmer House Hilton have fashioned to salute the military with window and in-store displays., 12 Noon.
