This year will be a landmark for the GLBT community, because of two women, Beverly Kopf and Bobbi Berleffi. These women known as "The TV Gals", with the help of Stoli Vodka, willmake a movie called "Be Real", a documentary about the differences and similarities of GLBT couples and straight couples. Long overdue, these women have a list of accomplishments from "The View" to the popular reality show "The Casino". From what I have read, the both of you have worked very hard to help people see other points of view, what was your greatest challenge in doing that?
Bobbie: Two documentaries come to mind "Men who Molest" and "The Mormons", people have preconceived ideas. I spent many hours with these people and they struggle with themselves. They weren't polarizing. I would rather be authentic.
Beverly: When I first became the writer of the view, I found that everyone was so curious of me and my lifestyle and it was an amazing opportunity to influence the national conversation to help people understand and be more at ease. What made you want to do "Be Real"?
Bobbi: A chance to cover part off the country to see gay men, lesbians, trans, radicals, bisexual all in the same room to challenge each other, this would be a first
Beverly: Being authentic is a cornerstone of our personal and professional lives. What an amazing opportunity. It was very difficult to come out to myself so this is a chance to help bring people together and explore deeper parts of themselves. What do you hope "Be Real" Accomplishes?
Bobbi: To spotlight individual local achievement in the community and that people will become inspired.
Beverly: We want people to come together as a community. The timing of this is significant. Will this just be aired on the gay networks?
There are conversations for gay networks for gay audiences and hoping that Be Real will go to film FestivalsWhat other projects are you working on, independently or together?
We have two series that are Vegas based, one is a documentary crime series about how Vegas came to be and one is in the works but it is still hush, hush! So you want to be a Hilton will air in June. What would you ultimately like to do?
Bobbi: I want to mentor younger people into this business, I see so many kids that are so talented that I want to help and let them influence us.
Beverly: I wrote my first screenplay but one of my dreams is to be a successful screenwriter and have Bobbi direct my films.
We would like to stretch ourselves as far as we can as a team, to produce and direct into film. I would like our company to become more visible and get more of our films on the air.
What else would you like our readers to know?
Bobbi: Get ready because you are going to learn something about the gay
community that you never knew before. We are going to find leaders and we are going to lead.
Beverly: I think that Stoli is very brave for funding this film and for them to see how this film will benefit them.
