Monday Night Throwdown!
Ok, we don't know all of the details or the whole story, but
Monday nights are about to get interesting in Chicago as there
has been a split amongst the principal players at Boom Boom Room.
First off, the long-running "Boom Boom Room" @ Green Dolphin Street
is still
going strong with resident DJs Michael Serafini, Diz, JustJoey
& Uncle Milty. On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, they celebrate
their 17th anniversary and are bringing in Louie Vega as the
special guest DJ for the celebratory night.
Now, the Music
101 folks, who promotoed Boom Boom Room for years at both Red
Dog and then at Green Dophin Street, are now doing their own
new weekly Monday night party at Vision Nightclub. They've brought some big names to
the DJ booth in this first month of their "Monday Social: Beats + Bass + Rhythm"
event and
are slated to have the duel personality that is Green Velvet
& Cajmere on March 17. Joining him will be Stacy Kidd and
Brian Gardner.
Meanwhile, as
those two duke it out for the late Monday night dancing set,
everyone can come together earlier in the evening at Morgan's (1325 S. Halsted) for
"A Service
Industry Networking Night." This new party will feature very attractive
drink specials and the music of DJ KT.
Fashionista --
Ok, so this is BOI's Spring Fashion issue. Hmmm, maybe we should
take a look at what fashions seem to rule at the various watering
holes that we, as a collective, frequent the most.
The center of
Boystown nightlife is at the corner Halsted and Roscoe and wow,
what a fashion show that takes place there every night of the
week. If you want to wear those skinny pants that make your
ass look good and the new dress shirt that fits just perfect,
then the trendy scene at Minibar is the place to be, especially on Friday and Saturday
nights with DJs Oskar and Phil da Beats, respectively. The folks
at Scarlet might also appreciate your look in that hot spot's
sleek and sophisticated environs.
The video bar Sidetrack
is well known
for their potent slushy drinks, the popular "Showtunes"
night on Mondays, "Comedy" night on Thursdays, and
guys dressed in the widest range of fashion in Boystown. From
dress slacks to tank tops, you'll find every type of guy imaginable
here. Next door at Cocktail the dress code is simple and relaxed
for the patrons listening to the house music groove DJs Michael
Serafini (Tuesdays) and Freddie Bain (Fridays). It's even more
relaxed for the oh-so hot Spank Go-Go Boys (Tuesdays and Thursdays
Sundays). Across the street, where Abercrombie & Fitch
is the uniform of choice, Roscoe's most popular nights include
Tuesdays for "Drag Race 2008" w/ Frida Lay and Sundays
for "Male Call" w/ Miss Foozie. And be sure to get
a head start on St. Patrick's Day here as they'll be offering
$13 pichers of Guiness, Harp, and Bass Ale all weekend long.
"Can I
Get A Warm Towel"
If you don't mind walking around in a white towel, then Steamworks, the full-service all-male
club, gym, and sauna, is the place for you. It features a couple
of special events in the coming weeks: a live on-location podcast
of Feast of Fools on Friday, March 14 @ 8pm and a St. Patrick's
Day party on Monday, March 17. Of course there's the "Lights Out"
party every
Thursday, the "Boys
With Balls" jock
play party on Saturday, March 15, and the "Bears Bath & Beyond" play party on Saturday,
March 22. Towels are also the fashion for patrons at Man's Country in Andersonville while
strippers usually get down to their birthday suits. Featuring
the Men of Sarabia, you can catch Christian, Fabion, Cezar and
Blake as they take the stage on Friday, March 14 with Giorgio,
Christian, Nate and Fabion set for Saturday, March 22.
Late Night Dancing
Those fancy new pair of expensive jeans are best worn when dancing
the night away, so be sure to head on over to Berlin on Friday for "Cosmix" with DJ Greg Haus or on Saturday for
"Twisted"
with DJs
Chester and Larissa. Hydrate
is another fun place to sport your $200+ Diesels with DJ Jeanette
on Sundays (Ladies Night), DJ Laura B on Wednesdays (Hy-Drag),
and DJ Greg Drescher on Thursdays (Hydrate Dancers). Once the
guys in cowboy hats and boots go home after an early night of
2-stepping and line dancing @ Charlie's on weekends, DJ Lulu's wicked hi-NRG beats heat
up the dance floor. Dancing out in the northwest suburbs is
best done @ Hunters
with DJs
Laura B for Saturday's "Ascent" and Ron G for Wednesday's "MWM." On the opposite side
of the Chicagoland area, Club Krave has DJs Rockin' RC and Pervy
on Fridays and Saturdays, respectively.
"Thongs,
Boxers, & Briefs Oh My!"
In Andersonville, strippers in thongs are aplenty at @mosphere, especially on Friday
and Saturday nights with DJs Eric Hall and Timmy Loop, respectively.
Meanwhile down in Boystown @ Lucky Horseshoe, strippers perform seven days a week strutting
their stuff on the bars. Every Friday night, Spin hosts a "Shower Contest" for those willing to strip down to their
skivvies while DJ Chris Eterno supplies the sexy beats. And
if you don't want to get your cute Ginch Gonch underwear wet
with water, keep them dry (or maybe not so dry) at Jackhammer's monthly "Underwear Party" on Saturday, March 15.
Threads &
Kicks
When it comes to real baggy pants and other urban fashions, the
"Xotik" crowd will be sporting
it on Saturdays @ Tokyo
21 with DJ
Anton busting out R&B, hip-hop, and house. In Boystown,
the runway for these clothes is located at @ Spin for the
"Ear-Rotic" party on Saturdays, March 15 & 22.
A sharp mix of
Latin fashions will be on display @ Circuit Nightclub on Saturday, March 15 for the "Amigo: Atlantida"
party with
Guest DJ Roei Rodriquez (Mexico City) and Resident DJ Alex Perez.
Weekly Latin pursuits include the south side's Chesterfield Club on the weekends, Hydrate on Tuesdays, Circuit on Thursdays and Sundays, and Jackhammer on Sundays. And then
on Fridays and Saturdays out in the southwest suburbs there's
yet another
"Boom Boom Room" (not affiliated with those previously mentioned)
@ La Quinta
de los Reyes (6739
W. Ogden Ave. in Berwyn).
Leather,
Levis & Come As You Are
Leather is the preferred fashion every day at the Chicago Eagle and Cell Block while Touché hosts a "Hardcore Leather Night" on Tuesdays. Back in
the day, bars such as Buck's
and Little
Jim's in
Boystown, Granville
Anvil on
the far north side, and Manhandler in Lincoln Park would have been described as Levi
bars.
While folks may
feel compelled to dress up in certain "drag" to go
out, there are still a great many places where you can pretty
much just show up dressed as you are. These include Big Chicks (dancing on Fridays and
Saturdays) and Crew
("Man The Mic Karaoke" on Tuesdays) in Uptown, Mary's Attic (DJs Shoshonna on Fridays
& Plez on Saturdays) in Andersonville, Scot's in the Ravenswood
neighborhood, and
The North End
and Bobby Loves in Boystown.
