I am sure all of you reading this remember as you were growing up gay, the struggle of being "different". Being different is what has brought us all together. When I see people like us, who have had to tolerate being called names, pointed at and mistreated because of what and who we are, it really ruffles my feathers. With that being said, I will go on to my
point. BOI Magazine, Issue 3.06, the Circuit Party Scene, we printed an ad from the St. at Large Black Party in New York. This ad featured "Buck Angel" a transgender female to male, in a woodland setting. Shame on those who called to say that they were offended at this ad! What was so offending about it? It is not pornographic, true; it got your attention, the point of a good ad.
I did some research on Buck Angel and he is an extraordinary person, who went through many of the same issues that we have gone through being gay. We all have the opportunity to be who we want to be and that's OK. LGBT people should be more accepting and understanding than others about extraordinary situations such as Buck Angel's. We claim to celebrate diversity, yet when it is staring is in the face why do we still turn our heads? Face it head on and be true to yourself and accept everyone for who they are.
