Q: I'm fairly athletic
and want to meet other gay guys who are also into playing sports,
not just going to the gym. Where do I find them?
A:
Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association (CMSA) offers
recreational as well as competitive level play in badminton,
bowling, dodge ball, volleyball, flag football, kickball, soccer
(indoor and outdoor), tennis, and volleyball (indoor and beach).
Given the variety of sports and various levels of competition,
you're likely to find a wide range of guys who are involved with
CMSA. For more info about CMSA, check out their website www.chicagomsa.d4sportsclub.com
or call 312.409.7932.
There's
another gay sports organization in Chicago called Windy City
Athletic Association. WCAA offers men's and women's
basketball leagues, bowling, darts, and volleyball. For more
info about them, go to www.wcaasports.org or email info@wcaasports.org
.
Q: I'm a bit of a voyeur
and like to watch scantily clad men frolicking around and dancing,
but not in go-go boy setting. Where can I go?
A: Your best bet is to go
to the monthly "Underwear Parties" at Jackhammer
the third Saturday of the month. It's not a requirement
that you strip down to your skivvies, but lots of guys take advantage
of the clothes check to show off their latest undergear and then
do some serious bumping and grinding on the dance floor.
Q: I've been on Manhunt
for years. It's been good, very good actually, to me, but I
need a new frontier. Any suggestions?
A:
If you are looking for a free site, the recommendation is for
www.Adam4Adam.com. The functionality is good; the profile
search program allows you to easily and quickly zero in on potential
tricks; and the membership pool seems to be much more diverse
than most other sites and has a good representation of African-American
and Hispanic men.
If
you want to shell out some coin for a site with increased functionality,
then be sure to check out www.Gaydar.net. They're based
out of the U.K. and thus the site and its membership base have
more of an international flavor. Yes, you can definitely find
a hook-up on Gaydar, but the site does not seem so sex-obsessed.
Other functions include their GPS service to pinpoint other
members' locations and a dance music download service. Gaydar
is pretty neat. Check it out.
Q. I don't want to just
find a man to hook up with; I want to find the right man to possibly
share my life with. Help!
A:
You should seriously think about contacting In Good Company,
the premier introduction service (aka a dating service) exclusively
for gay and lesbian professionals in Chicago. They'll provide
traditional matchmaking for you in a comfortable setting, taking
all the stress and work out of the process of trying to meet
new guys. They focus on matching gay professionals, taking into
account a lot of different factors, and they have actual humans
doing the analysis and matching, not a computer. Definitely
give In Good Company a try. They can be reached via email (info@igc-chicago.com
), their website (www.igc-chicago.com ), and telephone (312.499.9900).
Q: I recently tested positive
for HIV. My health is fine, but it's been a struggle dealing
with a lot of life and social issues that my friends, who are
HIV-negative, can't really talk to me about. Where can I go
to meet other HIV-positive men and to talk about these issues?
A:
Test Positive Aware Network (5537 N. Broadway |
773.989.9400 | www.tpan.com), the organization that publishes
Positively Aware, has several support groups including
the very popular "Brothers United in Support,"
which is geared toward African American men. TPAN also has a
"Newly Diagnosed" support group that runs in
an 8-week cycle. Howard Brown Health Center (4025 N. Sheridan Rd. | 773.388.8881 | www.HowardBrown.org)
also has a quarterly "HIV Newly Diagnosed" group
as well as an on-going "HIV Support Group" for
men. The Center on Halsted
(3656 N Halsted St | 773.472.6469 | www.centeronhalsted.org)
also has a weekly HIV support group. Socially speaking, TPAN
hosts "PULSE," a weekly poz-friendly bar night,
at North End on Thursdays (6pm-10pm). This is a great
opportunity to meet other poz guys who may become friends, and
maybe even become more than friends.
